Palace backup goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has expressed his desire to stay the South London club and fight for his place. Former Wales goaly Paul Jones has been leading the campaign for Hennessey to leave and gain first team football but the 28 year old seems more than happy to try and fight for his place at the club.
Hennessey has struggled to break into the Palace first team and has spent most of his time as understudy to Palace legend Julian Speroni. Since joining from Wolves in January 2014 the stopper has only managed 4 League appearances in the Red and Blue.
My season didn’t start very well. I’d have liked to have been playing, but I’ve kept myself right,’ said Hennessey,
‘I managed to get the last couple of games so I was chuffed. It’s been difficult because Julian Speroni has been playing.
In recent weeks the Welshman has been the subject of speculation as his former boss Tony Pulis seems keen to link up with the keeper once again. The interest comes as West Brom’s Ben Foster will be out for the most part of next season and his number two Boaz Myhill looks set to turn down a new deal which would leave Pulis without a senior goalkeeper.
Hennessey is aware of interest from his former manager and talking to the press he distanced himself away from a move to the Midlands club.
‘‘I’ve had people telling me about interest from West Brom. I’ve got two years left at Palace so I’m happy. I played the last couple of games so hopefully I can start next season.’
