RUMOUR: Palace enter race for Austin

According to reports Palace have entered the chase for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin. The Englishman has been priced at £15 million and it was Palace managers former teams Newcastle and Southampton who were believed to be leading the chase.

The 25-year-old is believed to want to stay in London which has alerted West Ham and Palace. Austin scored 18 Premier League goals last time out for QPR but that wasn’t enough to keep the West London club up.

It seems QPR would favour a move for Austin to Selhurst Park as Chris Ramsay has his eyes set on Glenn Murray replacing him and hopes he can lure him to Loftus Road as part of a deal.

Much like Murray, the former Burnley forward has made an incredible rise up the Football League having spent a large time in Non-League obscurity with the likes of Poole Town, Kintbury Rangers and Hungerford Town.

It wasn’t until 2009 that Austin was picked up by a Football League club when he joined Swindon, he had an impressive couple of seasons for The Robins as he picked up 31 League goals in just over 50 games.

In January 2011 Austin joined Burnley and in his first full season he managed to finish his on an impressive 16 goals. After relegation from the Premier League Harry Redknapp and QPR came calling and he moved down to London. Austin was pivotal in QPR’s push for promotion as he netted 17 goals.
