Everton have ramped up their interest for Crystal Palace centre-back, Scott Dann, according to Ed Malyon of the Daily Mirror. The Merseysiders are looking to replace former club captain, Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz but Palace’s valuation of £15m could prove a stumbling block.
The reports suggest that Martinez is desperate to make the Englishman his second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Tom Cleverley, who is set to officially join the club at the end of the month, once his contract expires at current club Manchester United.
Dann who recently won the Player of the Year award at Crystal Palace, is happy in South London but would relish a move back to his hometown, despite being a massive Liverpool fan. The centre half has had a fantastic year and a half at Selhurst Park, scoring five goals, including a header at Goodison Park. As a result, he has been widely perceived as one of England’s best central defenders, making him a man that Alan Pardew will be determined to keep his hold of.
If Palace were to sell their defensive tailsman, the money received could help fund some of Pardew’s more ambitious signings, with Yohan Cabaye, Mattia Destro, Loic Remy and Charlie Austin all being linked with moves to the South London clubs over recent weeks as well as that of Ola John who was liked with a move to the club this morning.
