Alan Pardew is one of three Premier League managers looking at securing the signing of Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips this summer, according to Matt Law of the Telegraph.
The 24-year-old made 27 appearances for the West London side last season, scoring three goals and providing eight for his teammates, all of which came after February when Chris Ramsey was appointed as the QPR boss. Unfortunately though, his magnificent contributions in the final couple of months couldn’t keep his side up who are now looking to offload the player to help reduce the wage bill.
The winger joined his current club in 2013 from Blackpool for £5m but whether they can make a profit on his sale remains to be seen with the three interested clubs being linked with a number of higher reputable players so far this summer ahead of the official opening of the summer transfer window next week, at the turn of the month.
Earlier in the season, the Aylesbury-born player scored a memorable 43-yard goal against the Eagles at Selhurst Park which caught everyone, including fans, players and pundits in awe. Speaking about the goal after the game, Alan Pardew said it was the best goal that he has ever seen both on and off the training ground:
‘Matt can be very proud of it. In 25 or 30 years on a training ground, I can’t remember seeing a better goal,” he said.
Matt Phillips isn’t the first winger to be linked with the club in recent days as young Benfica winger Ola John was also linked with a move to Selhurst Park with a deal reportedly “close” to being completed.
