Crystal Palace are closing in on their first signing of the summer, according to Matt Barlow of the Daily Mail, as he is reporting that talks are at an “advanced” stage for the midfielder to join his former manager Alan Pardew at Selhurst Park.
Cabaye has been at his current club Paris St Germain since January 2014, a move he made to find his way into France national side ahead of the World Cup that was taking place that summer. Now with the European Championships approaching in 2016 and with his performances failing to make an impact, the 29-year-old is looking for yet another move despite having three years remaining on his current contract.
It seems as if though that the attraction of the club to the former Newcastle player is that of Alan Pardew who he worked with in the north-east of England, that as well as the Eagles’ 10th placed finish in the Premier League last season – a position of which was masterminded by Pardew after taking over as manager with the club in the relegation zone at the turn of the year.
Speaking to La Parsien recently, the French midfielder spoke about his former manager very highly:
“It went very well with him. I enjoyed it with him and he does a great job. The most important thing is to find fun. If I have to make that decision, it will be a pleasure to see my old coach.”
It is understood that Crystal Palace’s transfer record will have to be broken yet again to secure the signing of Cabaye with PSG set to ask for £10m, breaking the record which currently stands with the transfer of James McArthur for £7m from Wigan – the Frenchman will also become the highest paid player at the club.
