Crystal Palace are yet to agree a fee with Paris St Germain for former Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye with the club yet to meet the asking price the French club have set for a transfer, according to Mohamed Bouhafsi of Paris based media outlet RMC Sport.
It was reported earlier on in the week by numerous sources including the Daily Mail that talks between the parties involved were at an “adavanced” stage but with these recent developments, it looks like there could be a while until a deal is concluded as it is being reported that an £8.5m bid for the midfielder has been rejected with PSG demanding at least £11.3m.
The 29-year-old made his move to the Paris club in January 2014 from Newcastle to gain more playing time in the hope of making it into the France national side ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but since then he has fallen out of favour at the club and made 24 appearances for PSG last season, scoring one goal and creating another.
Cabaye is looking to re-unite with his former manager Alan Pardew once again, and hope that the Eagles boss can give him a boost in profile ahead of the European Championships in 2016 which are being hosted in France. Speaking to French newspaper La Parsien, the midfielder said:
“It went very well with him. I enjoyed it with him and he does a great job. The most important thing is to find fun. If I have to make that decision, it will be a pleasure to see my old coach.”
Crystal Palace will have to break their transfer record to sign Cabaye, which is currently held by James McArthur who joined the club from Wigan for £7m last September. There has also been interest in the 29-year-old French midfielder from West Ham and AS Roma.
