Alan Pardew has put an offer on the table for his footballing right-hand man and Newcastle goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman to join the club this summer, as he looks to add even more experience to the coaching team at Crystal Palace, reports Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live.
Woodman has been ever-present in Pardew’s coaching team since joining West Ham’s backroom staff in the summer of 2006 – where he has gone on to join the Eagles boss in moves to Charlton in 2007 and Newcastle United in 2010. He remains the goalkeeping coach at the side from the north-east and was kept on by Steve McClaren after he replaced Pardew on a permanent basis at the end of the season, when it was decided that John Carver was not the man to take the club forward.
Chronicle Live reports that Woodman did not feature in the club’s official picture of the backroom staff at Newcastle United but remained at the club yesterday, training with their number one goalkeeper Tim Krul as they returned to pre-season ahead of the new Premier League campaign which starts in August.
Crystal Palace would be keen to help Pardew re-unite with his former coach but would have to pay a hefty compensation fee with Woodman’s contract expiring in 2020, similar to the one of which the current Crystal Palace manager signed with his former club.
The Newcastle goalkeeping coach was brought up in nearby Camberwell and had a spell at Crystal Palace in the academy as a goalkeeper, staying at the club until 1994.
