Crystal Palace have been told by Queens Park Rangers that they must meet the £3.5m release clause of Alex McCarthy if they want to sign the goalkeeper, according to Simon Johnson of the Standard.
The Rangers’ number 2 is widely expected to leave the Championship newcomers after Robert Green has decided to reject offers from elsewhere to remain at Loftus Road
Alan Pardew is looking to sign a replacement goalkeeper with Wayne Hennassey being targeted by former Palace boss, Tony Pulis, now at West Brom.
McCarthy would provide competition for long standing number 1, Julian Speroni.
Palace had a £2m bid rejected by QPR for the 25-year-old who are holding out for any potential suitors to activate his release clause. McCarthy, who made just four appearances last season due to the fine form of Robert Green, will be hoping for more game time at his next move.
Is the price right for McCarthy? Can he displace Speroni as number one?
