Alan Pardew has made quite the coup with his latest signing – he’s picked up young striker Patrick Bamford on loan from champions Chelsea. Bamford spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, finishing the Championship campaign with 17 goals and being named Championship Player of the Year. An intelligent player with a keen, natural eye for goal, he could be a brilliant addition to the Eagles squad, as a striker is definitely needed at Selhurst Park. Linking up well with Yannick Bolasie and Yohan Cabaye should see him notch a similar tally to last season’s efforts, so here’s a taste of what’s to come in 2015/16…
5) vs Man City, 2014/15
Not the most technical goal he’s ever scored but this highlights one of his key characteristics – he is a poacher, he relentlessly sniffs around for chances and always seems to latch onto loose balls – and he can score against top-class opposition!
4) vs Milwall, 2014/15
Another lovely finish from last season, this one came in a 3-0 win in which Bamford excelled – he shows here that he knows where to position himself to wait for a chance and of course, the finish is top quality
3) vs Sheff Wed, 2013/14
An audacious effort, this goal for Derby County when he was on loan to The Rams highlights his vision – he regularly picks up assists but his sharp eye means he can pick the goal out from anywhere!
2) vs Derby, 2014/15
When the young striker’s confidence is up, he’ll make a fool of anyone – defender, keeper, it doesn’t matter. He knows his own ability and uses it well.
1) vs Ipswich, 2014/15
Definitely the pick of the bunch, Bamford’s run here is timed to perfection and his calm, collected manner in leaving the goalkeeper sitting on the floor is very impressive – an attitude which should serve him well in the Premier League. With Yohan Cabaye in behind him, he might get a few one-on-one chances this season
