In an official statement released by the club today, Alan Pardew has ended Crystal Palace’s apparent ‘interest’ in Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini.
The quote from the ex-Newcastle United manager reads:
“Contrary to the rumours and reports circulating in the media, we want to confirm we have no interest in Fabricio Coloccini and although he remains my ex-captain and a great player, he will not be coming to Crystal Palace.”
Various media outlets, including the Independent, had claimed that the Eagles were closing in on the Argentine defender, because Newcastle boss Steve McClaren was ‘unsure’ of the captains future, with the question being raised about whether or not his future was at St James’ Park.
Links to Crystal Palace for Coloccini were strengthened because he didn’t feature for the Magpies in pre-season, so assumptions were made that the defender was on the move.
Rumours also grew stronger about the move because of the relationship between Pardew and the defender.
