Alan Pardew has revealed he doesn’t think that Crystal Palace will be making any more signings in the summer transfer window, having already brought in five new players as The Eagles gear up for a new campaign, which starts at Carrow Road against Norwich on Saturday.
Speaking in the press conference ahead of Saturday’s visit to East Anglia, the former Newcastle United manager said “I doubt we will make more signings. I am pretty much happy with what I have. There are one or two who need to move on. But we will not say never.”
Five players have already arrived at Selhurst Park this summer, with the most notable being Pardew’s ex-star at Newcastle Yohan Cabaye, who arrived from Paris Saint-Germain as the club’s record signing. He’s been joined by Connor Wickham, Alex McCarthy, Patrick Bamford and Bakary Sako.
Pardew also feels like The Eagles have the toughest run in the opening weeks of the season, and face games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester City. “I think the crux of our season could be the start because it is very, very tough. Our first period is probably toughest of all Premier League clubs in my opinion,” the 54-year-old said.
The former Charlton Athletic and Palace star also said “success for us this season is that we replicate the second half of last season. We have a commitment to entertain, to get results in the manner of this club. I think we are an exciting team and that is a dangerous thing to say at the start of the season.”
Palace finished in 10th last season, winning half of their last 8 games.
