Bristol City have now suffered highs and lows in their
pursuit of Dwight Gayle, with ESPN FC reporting that the striker has rejected a
move to the club in favour of pushing for a switch to another Premier League
side instead. This news comes after The Robins had a £6 million bid for the Crystal Palace man accepted, before he turned down the move.
The Eagles have brought in two big signings in Patrick
Bamford and Connor Wickham this window, which cast doubt over where Dwight
Gayle’s future lied, and led to speculation he could easily be heading out of
the exit door at Selhurst Park before the transfer deadline in September.
Bristol City were one of five Championship clubs allegedly
chasing the 24-year-old, and made headway with a £6m bid, which was reportedly
accepted by Palace. However, the former Peterborough man still made 25
appearances in the Premier League last season, and is angling for a move to a
club in the same tier, which means rejecting advances from clubs like Bristol,
which would require him to drop down to the Championship.
