Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has suggested that striker Glenn Murray will be staying at the club this summer, despite being strongly linked to a move to Premier League new boys AFC Bournemouth.
Speaking to The Croydon Advertiser, Pardew said: “I brought him back from his loan (at Reading in January) and gave him the games,”
“So as much as we owe Glenn, he owes us for the platform we gave him in the Premier League; He did very well for me and I have a good relationship with him.”
The frontman isn’t the tallest of Premier League strikers, but his aerial ability is one of his best traits. He scored seven goals and registered three assists in nine Premier League starts last season – averaging 2.9 aerial duels won per game.
During his loan spell at Reading at the start of 2015-16, this average was 3.5 per game whilst he scored eight goals in 18 Championship starts.
Bournemouth probably saw their chances of capturing Murray as fairly decent after Pardew brought in Patrick Bamford on loan from Chelsea and Connor Wickham on a permanent deal from Sunderland, but Alan Pardew seems keen to have good strength in depth this season – evidenced by the fact that Mile Jedinak, one of the stars of last season, is sitting on the bench right now.
