Norwich City wanted to sign Dwight Gayle, but a potential move was scuppered after Glenn Murray moved to Bournemouth on deadline day, according to the Croydon Advertiser.
Palace have injuries to their forward line at the moment and with Murray leaving for pastures new, the Eagles couldn’t afford to let the 24-year-old go so late in the window.
In an interview with Holmesdale Radio, Parish said:
“We did have a late bid from Norwich, but we couldn’t really take it seriously on the last day of the transfer window,” Parish told Holmesdale Radio.
“We have injuries in the strikeforce at the moment and Dwight is an important part of what we’re doing as well.
“Plus, once Glenn Murray had gone, there was no possibility of Dwight going anywhere.”
Gayle, who signed for Palace in 2013 from Peterborough United for a then club record fee of £4.5million, has grown frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities at Selhurst Park and signalled his intentions to leave the club earlier in the summer.
The former Dagenham and Redbridge hitman has been pushed further down the pecking order by Connor Wickham and Patrick Bamford, who were brought in by Alan Pardew over the summer.
Bristol City made a £6million for Gayle’s services, but the forward wasn’t interested in a move to Ashton Gate.
