Crystal Palace defender Martin Kelly is adamant that the Eagles will ‘take the positives’ from the narrow 0-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City on the weekend.
Palace, who were beaten thanks to a late goal from City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, fell to only their second defeat of the season following another narrow defeat back in August against Arsenal.
Alan Pardew’s men didn’t give away three points to City, but made the table toppers work for it. The South London side matched Pellegrini’s men on the pitch throughout the game and were unfortunate not to pick up a point.
Kelly was involved in the game as a replacement for Joel Ward who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines following an injury he picked up in training after the massive win at Chelsea just before the international break.
However, ex-Liverpool defender Kelly states that Palace are eager to return to winning ways as soon as they can, looking forward to their game on Sunday away at Tottenham.
Speaking to the Crystal Palace website, Kelly said:
We’re disappointed because we thought we matched Man City, but we’ll still take positives out of the game.
The manager’s made some good signings over the summer and if you look at our performance I think we’ve progressed as a team from last season and we’ve pushed on.
It’s got to be exciting for any fan watching – we’ve shown we can win away at Stamford Bridge and take the game to Man City with the fans right behind us.
