According to London 24, Irish youngster Matthew Shevlin will spend the next five days on loan at Crystal Palace, who have fended off interest from Celtic and Charlton.
The quick forward has already netted four times this season for his current club Ballymena United and the 16-year-old impressed in his side’s most recent win, 6-1 against Cliftonville.
However, Palace may need to move quickly if they are impressed by the youngster. Ballymena Times are suggesting that both Celtic and Charlton are watching the trial closely, just incase he isn’t given a chance at Selhurst Park.
If a young player has a knack of scoring goals and he also has a good work ethic, he can go to the top,” boss Glenn Ferguson told the newspaper.
What we like about him is the fact he never gives defenders a minute’s peace.
He is a 16-year-old with pace and he puts defences under pressure.
If the trial is successful for the youngster, he would most probably join up with Palace’s under-18 development squad, before making the step up to the under-21 side.
From there, Shevlin could then go on to impress Pardew who, if is impressed, could add him to the senior squad in the future.
Let’s see if this one works out!
