Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has stated that striker Connor Wickham should be available for the game against Tottenham Hotspur.
The new signing, who made the switch from fellow Premier League side Sunderland, was forced to sit out the 0-1 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend. With the injury to Wickham, the boss chose to play Yannick Bolasie as a lone striker with Dwight Gayle and Frazier Campbell on the bench. Chelsea loanee Patrick Bamford wasn’t even in the matchday squad.
Pardew had said that not having Wickham fit for the clash at Selhurst Park was a huge loss, and the result could have been different if the striker was fit.
But in more positive news, the manager has added that Wickham should be fit enough for the game at White Hart Lane and therefore, the system can be put back to normal with Bolasie on the wing.
Speaking after the defeat, Pardew said:
Bolasie was kind of the only option I had really.
Fraizer wasn’t really match fit and Connor was injured, so we did Yala through the middle against Liverpool and he did well there. He did okay today [Saturday], he didn’t do badly, but we did lack a bit of physicality.
It would be nice to have Connor back. I think he’ll be back for next week. Patrick missed out just because of the way I’m doing the subs and mixing things up a little bit. It was his turn to miss out.
