Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has heaped praise onto midfielder James McArthur following his impressive start to this season.
The 28-year-old has shown his class so far this season with his brilliant defensive displays, which allows the skillful and quick attacking players to go forward.
He has been described as an excellent defensive midfielder, and the stats certainly show his abilities. The Scottish international has the highest pass completion rate (87.1%) in the Crystal Palace team, from those who have made over five appearances this season. He is also within the top three players for tackles and interceptions won per game.
A player that doesn’t get many mentions at all, James McArthur, I think, is an unsung hero for Palace. He sits there, he wins tackles, he gives the simple ball and gets up and down [the pitch. He doesn’t make too many mistakes. I think he’s been really important in a fantastic start for Palace.
McArthur is a solid base for the Crystal Palace team, and is a player that most Premier League sides would want to have in their midfield. He will be hoping to continue his excellent performances when the Eagles host London rivals West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.
