Crystal Palace defender set for loan move

Preston North End manager Simon Grayson has not ruled out a Deepdale return for Crystal Palace defender Patrick McCarthy, according to lep.co.uk.

McCarthy joined Preston on a three-month loan deal at the beginning of October, but this was immediately cut short after he damaged the medial ligament in his right knee just nine minutes into his debut at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 32 year-old was then sent back to South London with the loan deal being terminated, but Grayson would like to see the Irishman back at Deepdale once he is back to full fitness

We have an agreement with them that if and when we want Paddy back, they will be very happy to do something again.

And the 45-year-old was full of praise for McCarthy.

We brought him in for his experience and leadership and in the dressing room before the Wednesday game, he was getting among the lads and passing his experience on to them.

He’s kept in touch with us and has been wishing the lads well for the games.

McCarthy had previously been on loan with fellow Championship side Bolton Wanderers, making 5 appearances.

This is not the first time the centre-back has been thwarted by injury. He missed the entire 2011/12 campaign with a groin injury, however he is likely to see some action again this season, although that will likely be back at Preston as his chances of getting into Alan Pardew’s side look slim-to-none.
