Crystal Palace captain Mile Jedinak has spoken about the confidence flowing through the dressing room at Selhurst Park but believes the Eagles need to find some consistency ahead of their clash with lowly Sunderland.
The 31-year-old enjoyed a fruitful international break with Australia but is now focussed on Sunderland’s visit to London on Monday.
They’re a team that will be desperate to get something so they’ll come here ready to go and hopefully we’ll be on our game to not only counteract them, but take it to them with a purpose. Regardless of the win at Liverpool, the boys will be confident because they’re always pretty confident. There are a lot of strong characters in our dressing room and even when it’s low they’re pulling everyone else along.
Palace have been largely impressive so far this season, they inflicted Jurgen Klopp’s first defeat as Liverpool boss as goals from Scott Dann and Yannick Bolasie sealed a 2-1 victory for Alan Pardew’s men.
Along with their Anfield scalp, Jedinak’s men also took three points from Stamford Bridge earlier in the season, and a win over the Black Cats on Monday evening could see them move into the European qualification places.
But Jedinak isn’t taking anything for granted and has called on his teammates to maintain their sharpness ahead of a hectic festive period.
We’re looking forward to getting back into action and hopefully I’ll be able to play my part as well. There’s a lot of games ahead of us in the coming weeks and the Christmas period is on the horizon too so everyone is going to have to be ready when called upon. You need to keep a bit of consistency for as long as possible, so we have to try to step things up in that respect and getting the right result against Sunderland will help us to do that.
Jedinak will be hoping for an improvement on last year’s performance in this fixture, he was sent off as goals from Jordi Gomez and a brace from Steven Fletcher guided the Wearsiders to a 3-1 win.
