Scott Dann has admitted he was at fault for the defensive mix-up that lead to Sunderland’s winner at Selhurst Park on Monday.
The centre back, who has been both solid and consistent for the Eagles this season struggled to deal with an incisive through ball, which allowed former Tottenham striker Defoe to nip in ahead of the on rushing keeper Wayne Hennessey and slot the ball into an empty net.
The defensive error in the 80th minute lead to another home loss for the Eagles. Which now means that Crystal Palace sit 10th in the Premier League table, even after their brilliant start to the season.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has defended Scott Dann by saying he (Hennessey) was “100 per cent at fault” But Dann has admitted he should of cleared his lines.
“I should have taken the initiative and cleared it,” said the defender. “I got the right side, took a look up and saw Wayne coming. I made my mind up to get my body in and then he [Wayne] stopped. I should have just cleared it whether he was coming or not. Then there is no danger.”
The loss has further added to Alan Pardew’s worries around his side’s home form this term, as he is desperately looking for an answer to remedy their home woes.
