With an eye on the weekend’s FA Cup semi-final with Watford, Alan Pardew put out a much-changed team against Manchester United at Old Trafford and the performance very much resembled one from a team with a lack of cohesion or familiarity.
Palace went behind very early on after Damien Delaney put the ball into his own net after failing to adequately deal with Matteo Darmian’s cross.
Julian Speroni, back in the starting line-up after a lengthy absence, kept Palace in the game with a number of fine saves but there was nothing he could do to stop United’s second goal.
Darmian got his first goal for United with a strike from twenty yards and that was enough to seal the win.
Palace’s thoughts now turn to the weekend’s game at Wembley Stadium against Watford, a side who also made a number of changes for their midweek clash.
