With Damien Delaney out of contract this summer and the likes of Adrian Mariappa, Brede Hangeland and Paddy McCarthy all set to leave the club, Crystal Palace are more than likely to be the market for at least one, maybe two, central defenders in the summer.
Whilst it would be nice to see the Eagles splash the cash on a big name defender as well as bring in one of the youngsters they’ve been linked with.
However, if funds are limited and Alan Pardew has his sights set on using his cash to improve other areas, there is an option to bring in a defender on a free transfer.
Of course, signing a player on a ‘free’ is never really free as he usually gets a large signing on fee, but it can still be cheaper than splashing the cash on a big-money buy.
