Crystal Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is closing in on a move to Southampton.
McCarthy is on the verge of signing for Southampton for a fee of £2m, as per a report from the Croydon Advertiser.
Although it does not state exactly how close a deal is, it intimates that a £2m fee has been agreed. This means that a medical is likely to take place in the coming days before a deal is officially announced.

Southampton are in the market for a goalkeeper to play back-up to Fraser Forster after Maarten Stekelenburg’s loan ended and he made a switch to Everton.
They clearly see McCarthy as the ideal man to come in and challenge Forster, as this deal now looks like it is nearing completion.
McCarthy is currently well down the pecking order with Steve Mandanda, Wayne Hennessy and possibly Julian Speroni, ahead of him in the pecking order. This means that a move to the Saints would suit all parties involved.
