Former Palace attacking midfielder Jake Gray has spoken out about his permanent switch to Luton Town that went through on Monday.
The 20-year-old spent most of last season on loan at Hartlepool in League 2 and enjoyed first-team football whilst at the North East club.
Despite his lack of first-team action at Palace of just two Capital One Cup appearances, fans were surprised to have learnt the man who had joined the club when he was 15 had departed.
Gray admitted to the Croydon Advertiser that his permanent move away from Selhurst Park to Luton Town was a bit of a shock.
My agent gave me a call on Thursday night to say a transfer had been arranged, then I played the friendly for the U21s against Cambridge United to get 90 minutes, then I went to meet the manager at Luton on Monday and he told me the plans.
The midfielder added that he was looking forward to joining up with the side and that the move wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.
That’s football for you, but to be honest it’s worked out brilliantly for me. I will get some games, experience and you never know what can happen.
Today it was announced that another academy player had left the cub as defender Jerome Binnom-Williams has joined Peterborough United. You can read more on that story here.
