Crystal Palace are edging closer to agreeing a deal with Liverpool to sign Belgian striker Christian Benteke, as he looks to leave Anfield to kick start his career again by playing regular first team football, as reported by the Telegraph.
Last month ,the deal looked dead and buried with The Eagles having a £25million bid rejected and it seemed like Alan Pardew wasn’t willing to pay more for the player.
However, a deal certainly looks on the cards now as Jurgen Klopp has indicated several times that Benteke is not part of his plans.
Liverpool are very keen to recoup as much of the £32.5million they paid Aston Villa for his signature during last summer’s transfer window. The 25-year-old is now accepting that he has no future at Anfield and his agent has been looking for a new club for his client.
Palace are hopeful they can come to an agreement over Benteke this week and the Belgian international is preparing himself for a move to London.
The two clubs are yet to agree a fee, but it’s thought a deal will end up being made worth around £30million.
Even with his staggering wage demands of £120,000-a-week, Palace are willing to meet Benteke’s personal terms, which will make him the highest paid player in the history of the club.
