Crystal Palace face League Two side Blackpool in the second round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night in search of a confidence boost, having won just two out of 22 league games in 2016.
Pressure is mounting on manager Alan Pardew, who is hoping that club-record signing Christian Benteke can turn around the Eagles’ fortunes.
Pardew is expected to field a heavily-rotated team against Blackpool, who have suffered back-to-back relegations in the last two seasons.
However, the former Newcastle boss may need a good cup run to lift the spirits of Palace fans, who are concerned by the dip in form in the second half of last season – having been challenging for Europe in the first half of the campaign.
Pardew did lead the side to the FA Cup final last season but missed out on the trophy to Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United.
