Summer 2016: Analysing Palace’s Transfers

Deadline Day proved to be less than fruitful for Alan Pardew’s side having conducted the bulk of their transfer activity earlier in the summer. A possible loan deal for Jack Wilshere did not materialise as the England man decided to join Bournemouth instead of the Eagles and Palace also failed to sign Genoa midfielder Tomas Rincon.

The South London side recruited five players in total, including record signing Christian Benteke who Palace forked out £27 million for after their slow start to the season.

Given Palace’s hugely disappointing and worrying 2016 league form, which was only masked by the side’s FA Cup run last season, Pardew and chairman Steve Parish reacted quickly by snapping up Andros Townsend from Newcastle and managed to lure four time Ligue 1 goalkeeper of the year Steve Mandanda from Marseille on a free.

James Tomkins made the short move across London from West Ham and Palace concluded their business with a loan deal for Loic Remy from Chelsea.

The squad also saw some significant losses including one of the club’s most successful captains ever in Mile Jedinak, who joined Aston Villa, and fan favourite winger Yannick Bolasie who joined Everton for £25 million.

Here is our analysis of the five signings Palace made this summer.
