Crystal Palace signed striker Jonathan Benteke this week in a deal which sees him team up with his older brother Christian who completed a £32m move to Selhurst Park from Liverpool earlier this summer.
Following his release from Zlute Waregem, Jonathan was on the look-out for a new club and when Palace came calling he couldn’t turn down a Premier League move, especially to play alongside his brother.
However, the Daily Mail believe that the Belgian side are seeking a compensation fee worth £85,000 for Jonathan despite the club and the player agreeing to the mutual termination of his contract.
Jonathan made his professional debut in the second tier of Belgian football with CS Vise, scoring twice in 18 appearances in the 2013/14 season before being head-hunted by top tier side Zlute Waregem who signed him on a free transfer that summer.
In the two years he spent in the Juliper Pro League, he only scored twice in 18 appearances for Waregem, and just three times in 25 games across all competitions with only one league start last season.
However, his minutes-to-goal ration is decent despite limited action. In the League, Jonathan averaged a goal every 137 minutes – better than a goal every two games, which is a ratio most clubs look for in their strikers.
