Crystal Palace have announced the signing of former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer, completing the club’s 25-man Premier League squad.
Leaving the North London club during the summer, Flamini has been talking to a number of clubs including in England and Europe in the hunt for a new club – holding talks with Pardew on a number of occasions.
Two clubs which were looking at signing the experienced midfielder, were also interested in Jack Wilshere, a player that eventually joined Bournemouth on loan. Despite the interest, the 32-year-old turned down both Roma and AC Milan as well as another club, Olympiakos.

Flamini made 24 appearances for the Gunners last season and featured in their Champions League campaign which saw them knocked out by Barcelona in the last 16, featuring in both of those legs.
Speaking about joining the club to the official website, Flaimini said: “Crystal Palace is a very ambitious club with great players and I am looking forward to being part of that squad. It is a very interesting challenge for me and I am very excited to be here. I have had chance to discuss the move here with Alan Pardew and he really helped me make my decision.”

Alan Pardew has also expressed his delight about the deal, with his leadership qualities a bonus. Speaking to cpfc.co.uk he said: “I thought it was important to get another midfield player. His playing ability will help us but also his leadership qualities and his ability of how to win games in a passing style. I am delighted that we have secured a player of his stature.”
