The winger already has 11 caps to his name, scoring on three occasions for his country and was in the reckoning to be part of the 23-man squad for Euro 2016 before being one of the final cuts from the preliminary squad last June.
After impressing for relegated Newcastle in the second half of last season, Townsend earned a move to Crystal Palace in the summer who met his £13m release clause.

Townsend has gotten off to a steady start to life at Selhurst Park, scoring once in seven appearances so far after stepping in for the departed Yannick Bolasie.
The 25-year-old winger is the only Palace player to be called up to the England squad this time around despite many calling for Scott Dann to be handed a maiden international call-up for his consistent play for the Eagles.
