Palace to be put through extra defensive training

Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann has said that his team “need to tighten in defence” following three successive defeats in the Premier League.

This interview took place after Palace’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend, where James McArthur scored twice to equalise, only for Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino to score, resulting in a a crushing defeat for the Eagles.

The Palace captain said:

The goals we gave away against Liverpool were disappointing and something we need to learn from quickly. We have conceded too many bad goals from the start of the season and we need to be better

According to the report in the London Evening Standard, Alan Pardew will be putting the team through extensive defensive training in the lead up to their match away at Burnley next Saturday as he looks to get the season back on track.

Pardew said:

The back four is the strength of this club. It did not play well against Liverpool. As much as I want to defend them, it did not work and we have got some work to do before we go to Burnley on Saturday. To concede two set plays is unusual for us and that is something we need to address.

Palace conceded twice from set piece situations which ultimately cost them the match and the result sent them down to twelfth in the table.

Burnley have proven in recent weeks that they are no pushovers so Pardew will want his defence ready for what is likely to be a tough game:
