One of the most memorable League Cup games for Crystal Palace fans as well as one of the most talked about games, for a few days and weeks afterwards was when the Eagles visited Manchester United at Old Trafford on 30th November 2011.
It would be wrong not to start by talking about Darren Ambrose, remembered in this game for his goal from 35-yards out, a shot that drove into the right corner, flying over a stunned defence and goalkeeper. An unbelievable shot it was.

That opening goal 64th minute sent the Palace fans wild in disbelief, not only were they beating the Red Devils after a bad run of form but also of how the goal was scored – as you can tell, it’s still hard to get over.
Federico Macheda equalised for the hosts from the spot shortly after the opening goal, with the game eventually heading to extra-time all square. Glenn Murray scored the winner with a header after a corner from Ambrose, giving the Eagles a well deserved victory.
