In Sam Allardyce’s first match as Crystal Palace manager, it was pretty evident that the players were giving much more for him than they gave for Alan Pardew over the last few months.
Palace got off to a flyer when Yohan Cabaye coolly fired past Heurelho Gomes to give Allardyce’s side the lead after 26 minutes.
Matt Clattenburg then awarded Palace a penalty when Gomes recklessly brought down Christian Benteke in the box. The Belgian stepped up to take the penalty which Gomes was more than a match for and saved.
Watford battled back in the second half and were given a penalty when Damien Delaney held Sebastien Prodl from a corner which allowed Troy Deeney to score his 100th goal for Watford and level the game.
With both sides pushing for a winner at the end, neither were able to get over the line as Palace make it 365 days without an away clean sheet in the Premier League.
