Sam Allardyce is showing interest in former Eagles defender Jose Fonte, who has handed in a transfer request to his current club Southampton, according to sources close to the club which have spoken to ESPN.
The 33-year-old has rejected a new deal at St Mary’s and is looking to move from the Saints, a club that he has been at since 2010 after moving from South London with the Eagles.
The defender has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks but Jose Mourinho has responded to speculation by denying any interest in the Portuguese player.

Allardyce is reportedly in the market for a centre-back to fix the defensive issues that Palace have been facing so far this season, with sources claiming that the Eagles boss has been made aware of the situation surrounding Fonte.
The Southampton player still has 18 months left on his current deal with his current club looking for around £12m to secure the services of a player they’d rather not let go.
