Bringing in a new defender or two is top of Sam Allardyce’s agenda this month and he’s eager to sign Everton captain Phil Jagielka, according to the Daily Mail.
Despite starting the season as one of the first names of the teamsheet, Jagielka has appeared in only three of Everton’s last nine Premier League games, starting just two of those which has raised questions over his future at Goodison Park
After holding crunch talks with manager Ronald Koeman earlier this month, the 34-year-old centre-back has decided he is ready to leave the club he joined from Sheffield United back in 2007.
Jagielka has spent nearly a decade on Merseyside, making 338 appearances and scoring 15 goals. He’s also become an England regular in that time, earning 40 caps for the Three Lions.

The Daily Mail have also reported that Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Swansea, Bournemouth and Southampton all also interested in signing the centre-back this month.
West Ham were also eager to sign Jagielka but they opted to make a move for Southampton’s unsettled captain Jose Fonte in an £8m deal – despite the advances of the Eagles to re-sign their former defender.
