Andros Townsend wants to return to Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez hopes to reunite with the 25-year-old this window, but a deal is looking increasingly unlikely as it stands.
Talks between Crystal Palace and Newcastle had reached an advanced stage and progressed over the weekend, as per The Mail. However, George Caulkin of The Times has revealed Newcastle have turned their attentions to Swansea City winger Modou Barrow after failing to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace for Townsend, admitting he is ‘not sure what the issue is’.
This news comes as a blow to Palace boss Sam Allardyce who had already identified Townsend’s replacement in the shape of Hull City wide man Robert Snodgrass.

The Eagles would have to free up funds through a player sale in order to complete a transfer for the 29-year-old.
Yohan Cabaye has been linked with a return to France to either Marseille and league leaders Nice, but the interested parties would only consider a loan move for the former PSG midfielder.
