When Matt Briggs was a teenager, he seemingly had a very bright future ahead of him, but an ACL injury at the age of 18 set him back significantly and he ended up going to university as he feared he’d never have a career in football.
However, aged 20, he’s now back fit and playing well in the Ryman League with Dorking Wanderers and as such, a whole host of clubs, including Crystal Palace, have been watching him closely with a view to making a bid to sign him.
As reported in the Surrey Mirror, Wanderers boss Marc White says he expects a “bidding war” for the winger as so many clubs are interested in him.
He said:
We have had Stoke City, Palace, Portsmouth, Charlton Athletic and Ipswich watch him as well as a host of National League sides. The club are getting daily calls about Briggs now. He’s on a two-year contract that ends in 2018 and to be frank, I think it’s going to end up being a bidding war.
White has ruled out the possibility of Briggs moving in January but expects him to leave at the end of the season.
The player is still at university and will only leave for a club who offers him a good length contract and the chance at first team football.
Palace would likely comply with the first request but the second would be much more difficult so time will tell if they actually decide to make a bid.
