According to Keith Downie of Sky Sports, a £2 million loan fee is all that stands between Andros Townsend and his return to Newcastle United.
At the moment, Crystal Palace have apparently agreed to sanction a £13 million sale this summer, but want Newcastle to pay an additional £2 million to take the former Tottenham winger on loan for the rest of the season.
The paltry figure may be a matter of pride more than anything else as Townsend made the same switch in the opposite direction this summer for £13 million after Newcastle were relegated.
It seems Crystal Palace are determined to come out ahead on the transaction and Newcastle are reluctant to admit defeat.
With so much money in the modern game it seems unlikely that £2 million will prevent this deal from going through before tomorrow’s deadline., but who knows, in the past it has only taken a fax machine for a transfer to collapse!
