Sam Allardyce has secured his second signing of the January transfer window, with the club confirming the arrival of Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt, who has arrived for a fee believed to be around £14m.
The 26-year-old had a medical with the club on Friday, following the van Aanholt handing in a transfer request at Sunderland, expressing his wishes to his old club that he no longer wished to play for them.
Signing a four-and-a-half year deal with the club, the full-back will remain at the club until 2021, he is Allardyce’s second signing of the window following the signing of Leicester City’s Jeffery Schlupp.

Van Aanholt worked with the full-back during his time at Sunderland, in which he guided the club to safety from the relegation zone, of which they were flirting with for the majority of the season.
The 26-year-old has been at the Stadium of Light since 2014, after joining from Chelsea, where he was sent out on numerous loan spells during his time at the club, including at Coventry, Newcastle and Leicester City.
