Bringing in midfielders is something Sam Allardyce wants to do before tonight’s 11PM transfer deadline but it seems he won’t be successful in signing Gelson Fernandes.

According to Blick, Stade Rennais have rejected an approach from Palace to sign Fernandes this month.
The 30-year-old midfielder does have Premier League experience under his belt. In 2007, Manchester City signed the Swiss international in a £4.7m deal from FC Sion where he spent two years with the club before Saint Etienne signed him in a £3m deal just two years later.
Fernandes failed to settle with the Ligue 1 club, leaving them on loan deals to Chievo Verona, Leicester ad Udinese before finally leaving on a free transfer to join Sporting Lisbon in July 2012.
He’s spent the last two-and-a-half-years with Rennes back in France but it appears he won’t be making a return to English football following Palace’s rejected approach for his services.
