Even though the January transfer window has only been closed for 12 hours, Crystal Palace are still looking at players to approach in the summer.
One player Palace are believed to be scouting is Dorking Wanderers midfielder Matt Briggs, but they face competition from the likes of Millwall, Stoke, Charlton and Portsmouth of late.
The 20-year-old tells the Surrey Mirror that he’s just focused on life with Dorking and working towards promotion this season before worrying about his future.
“It’s pretty exciting but I’m just trying to knuckle down at the moment, same as I always have done,” Briggs said.
The midfielder suffered a severe ACL injury when he was 16 which set him back two years in his career at a time where Football League clubs were eyeing a move for him.
“I did my ACL when I was 16. I had a few clubs interested when I was 16, like Hartlepool and Burnley, but then last game of that season I did my ACL and I missed basically two years and had five operations on my knee.
“I was pleased to get back but it took a long time and was very frustrating after having so long out. But I’m back now and loving playing football for Dorking Wanderers.
“It was a very big blow aged 16 but I went back to school and did my A Levels and now I’m at Surrey University in Guildford. If a club came in for me though I could defer my course.”
Despite Premier League interest, Briggs would only consider leaving if the right offer came in where he’s in and around the first-team squad.
“You’d want to be pushing for the first team,” he explained. “For the right deal I’d go. Location isn’t a huge issue but the length of contract and opportunities to play first team are really important.”
