Free agent defender Martin Caceres is certainly holding out for the highest bidder.
The Uruguayan defender passed a medical with AC Milan over a free transfer move until the end of the season but unimpressed by the contract offers put forward he pulled himself out of the move.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Milan offered Caceres a deal worth €250,000 for the next five months, roughly £10,000-a-week, which included performance bonuses which could bring the deal to €400,000 but Caceres is looking for a more lucrative contract.
The 29-year-old last played a professional game on February 3rd, 2016 in a Serie A clash between Juventus and Genoa prior to him tearing his achilles tendon which forced him to miss the rest of the season and prevented him signing a deal with a club in the summer after his Juventus release.
Now fit and ready for action, Caceres is wanted by both Southampton and Crystal Palace who are able to offer him a more lucrative contract than the one Milan offered, by Gazzetta note that Palace are the most likely destination for the former Barcelona and Sevilla defender.
A year is a lot of time between games, but Mamadou Sakho hadn’t featured for Liverpool all season prior to his loan move to Selhurst Park last month and the Frenchman came straight into the line-up for Sam Allardyce.
Caceres, who has been fit for several months now and was deemed ready for action by the Milan medical staff would surely be able to step in and play right away if called upon.
