While Crystal Palace managed to bring in a central midfielder during the January transfer window, it was rumoured that one could’ve been on the way out as well.
Marseille were reportedly interested in bringing Yohan Cabaye back to Ligue 1 during the transfer window as part of their long-term project but Palace were unwilling to do business for their star midfielder.
The Eagles shelled out £12m to bring the 31-year-old to Selhurst Park in July 2015 and he’s been a mainstay in the team ever since.
Cabaye has spoken out about the links with Marseille, stating that it’s flattering to be wanted by them but he’s focussed on helping Palace in the here and now.
“It’s flattering, because OM are one of the great French clubs,” Cabaye told L’Equipe Enquete (h/t Sports Mole).
“We’re in a difficult situation. I’m trying my best to help my team as best I can. I have immense respect for the coach, but today that’s the reality with my club.”
Capped 48 times by France, Cabaye has made 64 appearances for Palace since arriving, scoring eight goals.
