Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has played down an argument between Christian Benteke and Andros Townsend, during and after, Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough.
The Belgium striker was seemingly furious at Townsend’s decision to take a shot at goal, rather than pass it to the former Liverpool player, in the latter stages of the game.
Middlesbrough goalkeeper had to get in between the two players, during the toe-to-toe exchange after the final whistle, with Benteke then proceeding down the tunnel, choosing to not celebrate with teammates on the pitch.

Speaking after the game, when asked about the incident, Allardyce had the following to say: “It’s very good, because he loves scoring goals. He’s put a lot of work in as well.
“Everyone’s lifted their physical element, which I think’s come from the training we’ve given them, and that’s helped with the mental side: the decision making was very, very good.
“It shows they are taking more responsibility: they’re talented, they just haven’t been showing the talent on a regular basis, and certainly haven’t been consistent enough in the games played by letting some really sloppy goals in.”
