When Steve Mandanda signed for Crystal Palace in the summer, the idea was that he’d help solidify a defence that was leaking goals all over the shop in the second half of last season.
The 32-year-old started nine Premier League games for the Eagles early in the season, conceding 17 goals and failed to keep a single clean sheet before suffering a knee injury which required surgery in the Autumn.
Despite his return to fitness after the turn of the year, Mandanda has been unable to unseat Wayne Hennessey as the club’s No.1 goalkeeper since Sam Allardyce replaced Alan Pardew as manager.
Capped 24 times by France, Mandanda has been linked with a return to Marseille in the summer, the club he left to join Palace, but an even bigger club have registered their interest.
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich are said to be interested in signing Mandanda in the summer to be their luxury backup to Manuel Neuer between the sticks.
Mandanda is edging his way towards the exit door at Selhurst Park as he’s not happy with life in the Premier League and he’s said to be most interested in a return to the south of France with Marseille, but the opportunity to join Bayern may be too good to turn down.
