Young rising talent signs new Palace contract

18-year-old midfielder Jason Lokilo has signed a new contract at Crystal Palace, after an impressive pre-season with the first team and catching the eye of new manager Frank de Boer.

Lokilo featured on the bench for the Eagles in their opening Premier League game of the season against Huddersfield but didn’t take to the field of play, however, he did feature for a full 90 minutes for the U23s in their first game today in the 2-0 win over Burnley.

His agent tweeted the news this afternoon after the game against Burnley. Ahead of the game on Saturday, Frank de Boer spoke about Lokilo, saying:

“There are really talented players. Like Jason Lokilo, I never heard of him. But he trained one time with us and we said ‘hey, who is that little boy?’

“He did not lose the ball and knows his surroundings. Ok, he is just 18 but he has specific qualities. The fans love when players come through the youth team, like Wilf [Zaha]. ”

There has been no official confirmation from the club so far in regards to the contract but one is thought to be round the corner, with Crystal Palace holding an open training session at Selhurst Park tomorrow.

The Belgium youngster joined Palace in 2015 and signed his first professional deal with the club in September last year. Lokilo impressed in pre-season friendlies against FC Metz and Schalke 04, catching the eyes of many fans and the manager Frank de Boer.
