Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke is fighting to keep his career at the club alive after struggling in the opening few games of the season, the Daily Mail reports.
Benteke had cost Palace £27million but has failed to score so far this season and has just two goals to his name this calendar year.
The Belgium international was struggling with a knee injury at the weekend and so was replaced by Jordan Ayew in Roy Hodgson’s starting line-up against Huddersfield Town.
Ayew impressed Hodgson at the weekend and is likely to keep his place in the team for the game against Newcastle United even if Benteke returns to full fitness before this weekend.
Ayew arrived at Palace in the summer and could displace Benteke as Palace’s first-choice centre-forward this season.
The club are believed to be weighing up dipping into the transfer market for another centre-forward in January as they look to potentially replace Benteke who has failed to live up to his price tag during his time at Selhurst Park.
