Crystal Palace are believed to be keen on stepping up their interest in a deal to sign Hector Herrera on a free transfer next summer.
The Mexican international is out of contract with the Portuguese giants at the end of the season, meaning that interested parties will be able to secure a pre-contract agreement with the player ahead of a free transfer in the summer.
Palace have been heavily linked with signing the midfielder in recent times and according to claims from Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by Inside Futbol, they are “laying the groundwork” as they prepare to make their move.

Herrera, who remains the captain of Porto, has been a key player for his side over the years but now looks set to seek pastures new.
Palace are believed to have sent scouts to observe Porto’s recent fixtures in Liga NOS, with Herrera understood to be the primary subject of their analysis.
The Eagles aren’t alone in their interest, however. Gazzetta’s report also indicates that Watford and Arsenal are keen to bring the 28-year-old to the Premier League ahead of next season.
