Zaha hits back at racial abuse following Arsenal draw

Wilfried Zaha has revealed that following Crystal Palace’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, he received racial abuse and threatening messages via social media.

The Eagles star came in for criticism after the game, with many believing that he dived over the challenge of Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka to earn his side a late penalty, which Luka Milivojevic converted.

Xhaka himself admitted following the match that he made contact with Zaha’s trailing leg, which led to the penalty being given.

However, Palace star Zaha revealed on Tuesday that since the game, he has received an influx of disturbing messages, inciting racial hatred and threats towards his family.

Zaha, as reported by the Guardian, responded to these messages by posting an Instagram story. The Ivory Coast international said:

For all the people taking it one step further and being racist and wishing death on my family I wish you and your families the best too x p.s my life is still very good despite your hate.

Zaha was influential once again for Palace at the weekend as they clinched a point against an in-form Arsenal side.

The attacker will be keen to help his team advance in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday as the Eagles face Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the competition.
